The Self-Paced Pre-Algebra & Algebra 1 Curriculum You’ve Been Waiting for!

Does any of this sound familiar?

You want a self-paced online course with written practice

You don’t want just a book, but you also don’t want to sign your life away to mandatory meetings and non-negotiable class times. You want a self-paced course that also has pen-and-paper practice that isn’t just busywork.

You need the teaching and the grading done for you – but flexibility too!

You don’t want to grade math you don’t understand, but you also don’t want to be locked into a specific time-frame to finish the class, because all students learn at their own pace, and one of the benefits of homeschooling is supposed to be flexibility and working at your own pace.

.

You’re tired of fighting with your student over math homework

You want a math curriculum that teaches for UNDERSTANDING and mastery, but still has enough practice and fun activities built in to understand the content, but it also has to have videos that your student loves so math isn’t like pulling teeth. . . that’s not too much to ask, right?

What if you could….

  • Replace your students’ tears of frustration and dread of math with a love (or at least tolerance!) of math and CONFIDENCE in their math skills and understanding.
  • Set your students up for SUCCESS in high school and college math with a SOLID understanding of the basics of Algebra.
  • Ditch the time-consuming process of grading and teaching a subject you don’t love and get back time to pour into the other subjects you actually LOVE to teach.
  • Still have email access to a certified math teacher and algebra expert to ask all your questions, even though it’s a self-paced class.

You CAN have it all!

Take a Peek Inside the Course!

  • Chapter 1: Whole Numbers: Students focus on numbers used for counting as well as four arithmetic operations—addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Chapter 2: The Language of Algebra: Students will explore the words used to describe algebra and start learning to solve algebraic problems easily.
  • Chapter 3: Integers: Students will describe these kinds of numbers and operations using them.
  • Chapter 4: Fractions: Students will learn about describing fractions and operations with fractions.
  • Chapter 5: Decimals: Students will explore decimal numbers and how to perform operations using them.
  • Chapter 6 : Percents: Students will find out what percents are and how we can use them to solve problems.
  • Chapter 7: The Properties of Real Numbers: Students will learn about other types of numbers and their properties.
  • Chapter 8: Solving Linear Equations: Students will solve equations using properties of equality.
  • Chapter 9: Math Models and Geometry: Students will practice solving application (word) problems, including applications involving money. Then students will explore geometry and relate it to everyday situations, using a problem-solving strategy.
  • Chapter 10: Polynomials: Students will learn about polynomials and how to perform basic mathematical operations involving polynomials.
  • Chapter 11: Graphs: Students will learn the basic concepts of graphing.
  • Unit 1: Foundations: Reviews arithmetic operations with whole numbers, integers, fractions, and decimals, to give the student a solid base that will support their study of algebra.
  • Unit 2: Solving Linear Equations and Inequalities: Students learn to verify a solution of an equation, solve equations using the Subtraction and Addition Properties of Equality, solve equations using the Multiplication and Division Properties of Equality, solve equations with variables and constants on both sides, use a general strategy to solve linear equations, solve equations with fractions or decimals, solve a formula for a specific variable, and solve linear inequalities.
  • Unit 3: Math Models: Once students have learned the skills needed to solve equations, they apply these skills to solve word and number problems.
  • Unit 4: Graphs: Covers the rectangular coordinate system, which is the basis for most consumer graphs. Students learn to plot points on a rectangular coordinate system, graph linear equations in two variables, graph with intercepts, understand slope of a line, use the slope-intercept form of an equation of a line, find the equation of a line, and create graphs of linear inequalities.
  • Unit 5: Systems of Linear Equations: Covers solving systems of equations by graphing, substitution, and elimination; solving applications with systems of equations, solving mixture applications with systems of equations, and graphing systems of linear inequalities.
  • Unit 6 : Polynomials: Students learn how to add and subtract polynomials, use multiplication properties of exponents, multiply polynomials, use special products, divide monomials and polynomials, and understand integer exponents and scientific notation.
  • Unit 7: Factoring: Students explore the process of factoring expressions and see how factoring is used to solve certain types of equations.
  • Unit 8: Rational Expressions and Equations: Students work with rational expressions, solve rational equations, and use them to solve problems in a variety of applications.
  • Unit 9: Roots and Radicals: Students are introduced to and learn to apply the properties of square roots, and extend these concepts to higher order roots and rational exponents.
  • Unit 10: Quadratic Equations: Students study the properties of quadratic equations, solve and graph them. They also learn how to apply them as models of various situations.

Each lesson has notes & practice to go along with each video! You will also get fun activities for each unit/chapter.

*Pre-Algebra has just textbook exercises for Chapters 1 – 3 for now, and will be updated to include worksheets and notes pages this summer*

“Highly recommend! A math teacher that actually makes sense! I finally feel confident in my math skills.

Hannah

This was the BEST explanation, thank you again for the video and notes!! It has been so long since I had Algebra and it was a great refresher for me! {My daughter} caught on and flew through the assignment, then explained some to me, lol. Her exact words were, “Mrs. Holman explains this WAY better than Mrs. ______!!”

Meet Your Teacher

Hey Friends!

My name is Carolyn Holman, and I’m the teacher behind Mrs. Holman’s Classroom. I am a certified math teacher with a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Master’s in Teaching, and I have been teaching and/or tutoring (both online and in person) for the last 12+ years!

My specialty is inspiring students to learn to love (or at least like!) math and learning. I especially love teaching Algebra and making all those crazy abstract concepts concrete and understandable. My teaching is always student-centered and focused on WHY math works and exploring patterns, rather than just formulas to memorize with no real understanding of why they work.

I love seeing the lightbulb go off in students’ heads when they understand a concept, and I look forward to seeing that in your student too!
