Get Ready for PreAlgebra This Summer!
Embark on a Self-Paced, 8-Week Journey to Math Confidence and Success
Get Ready
Do you want to brush up on your math skills before PreAlgebra or 8th grade in the fall?
Did you struggle in 6th or 7th grade and need to practice math before starting 8th grade?
Do you want a ROCK SOLID foundation before heading into your first (or even second!) PreAlgebra class?
Do you want a self-paced class that you *could* do in 8 weeks, but you could also do in 4, or 6, or even 16 weeks?
If any of these describe you, then this is YOUR class!
Get Set
In this 8-week course, we will cover 8 major “chapters” of PreAlgebra. Students will be given and encouraged to complete the supplied extra practice problems throughout the week to solidify learning. Do as much or as little as they need – STUDENTS are in control of their learning! You never have to worry about losing access, because you get lifetime access when you enroll.
GO!
Each week students will watch video lessons where I teach them using a modified I Do, We Do, You Do approach. I ask lots of questions, so be ready to pause and participate! Students are always encouraged to reach out to me with questions – even though this is a self-paced course, I am here to help!
Every week, students will also be given a variety of resources for further study if they feel like they want more of a challenge or want a little more explanation and practice.
You’re just a few steps away from math confidence and excitement going into Pre-Algebra!

Math is such a fun subject, full of patterns and laws. It can also be scary – but when you are ROCK SOLID in your foundation, you go from being scared to being CONFIDENT!Mrs. Holman
Meet Your Teacher
Hey Friends!
My name is Carolyn Holman, and I’m the teacher behind Mrs. Holman’s Classroom. I am a certified math teacher with a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and a Master’s in Teaching, and I have been teaching and/or tutoring (both online and in person) for the last 12+ years!
My specialty is inspiring students to learn to love (or at least like!) math and learning. I especially love teaching Algebra and making all those crazy abstract concepts concrete and understandable. My teaching is always student-centered and focused on WHY math works and exploring patterns, rather than just formulas to memorize with no real understanding of why they work.
I love seeing the lightbulb go off in students’ heads when they understand a concept, and I look forward to seeing that in your student too!
What You’ll Learn
Chapter 1: Whole Numbers
This chapter focuses on the numbers used for counting, as well as the four basic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
We will cover:
- Identify the place value of a digit.
- Use place value to name and write whole numbers.
- Round whole numbers.
- Translate word phrases to math notation.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers.
Chapter 2: The Language of Algebra:
This chapter explores the words used to describe algebra and begins introducing algebraic problems in both classroom situations and everyday life.
We will learn how to:
- Use variables and algebraic symbols
- Identify expressions, equations, terms, coefficients, and like terms
- Simplify expressions with exponents using the order of operations
- Evaluate algebraic expressions and simplify expressions by combining like terms
- Translate word phrases to algebraic expressions or equations and solve
- Determine whether a number is a solution of an equation
Chapter 3: Integers
This chapter explores integers in real-world contexts and how to solve equations using integers.
Our learning objectives are:
- Order positive and negative numbers
- Find opposites
- Model addition and subtraction of integers
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers in applications
- Multiply and divide integers
- Simplify expressions and evaluate variable expressions with integers and absolute value
- Translate word phrases to algebraic expressions, and into an equation and solve
- Determine whether an integer is a solution of an equation
- Solve equations with integers using the Addition, Subtraction, and Division Properties of Equality
Chapter 4: Fractions
In this chapter, we will learn about numbers that describe parts of a whole. These numbers, called fractions, are very useful both in algebra and everyday life.
We will learn how to:
- Evaluate variable expressions with fractions
- Model improper fractions and mixed numbers
- Convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers
- Locate fractions and mixed numbers on the number line
- Order fractions and mixed numbers
- Add, subtract, multiply, divide, and simplify fractions and mixed numbers
- Translate phrases to expressions with fractions
- Simplify complex fractions and expressions written with a fraction bar
- Model fraction addition and subtraction, model and find equivalent fractions
- Find the least common denominator (LCD) and covert fractions to equivalent fractions with the LCD
Chapter 5: Decimals
In this chapter, we will explore decimal numbers and how to perform operations using them.
We will cover:
- Name, write, and order decimals
- Convert decimals to fractions or mixed numbers
- Locate decimals on the number line
- Round decimals
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals
- Use decimals in money applications
- Convert fractions to decimals and order them
- Simplify expressions using the order of operations
- Determine whether a decimal is a solution of an equation
- Solve equations with decimals and translate to an equation and solve
Chapter 6: Percents
In this chapter, we will find out what percents are and how we can use them to solve problems.
We will learn how to:
- Translate and solve percent proportions
- Use the definition of percent
- Convert percents to fractions and decimals and convert decimals to fractions to percents
- Translate and solve basic percent equations and solve applications of percent
- Find percent increase and percent decrease, and solve sales tax, commission, discount, markup, and simple interest applications
- Use the definition of proportion and solve proportions and applications using proportions
